Transforming dementia care in Southland

The Hawthorndale Care Village is a revolutionary step forward for dementia care in New Zealand. Inspired by the innovative Dutch care village, De Hogeweyk, we aim to create dementia care that honours each person, supporting them with compassion, dignity and respect by recreating the familiarity and rhythm of everyday life within a safe and secure setting.

Inspired by world-leading dementia villages

The Village design, philosophy and overall approach to care is based on strong evidence showing that familiarity, comfort, and stimulation has the biggest positive effect on health and wellbeing.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we remain committed to pioneering a new approach to positive aged care in the country. In turn, we hope this will inspire other providers to create their own positive change in aged care.
