Hawthorndale Care Village Officially Opens: A New Chapter in Community Care
On Thursday, March 20th, 2025, we proudly celebrated a monumental milestone in the journey of Hawthorndale Care Village with its official opening day. The event marked the culmination of over a decade of hard work, vision, and dedication. A special ceremony took place with Manager, Margaret Brown and Jim Hannan, former Calvary Hospital Board member, unveiling the commemorative plaque in front of more than 200 invited guests who have supported this transformative project from its inception.

A Place built by the Community for it’s Community - A Dream Realised.
Hawthorndale Care Village Trust Chairman Frank O’Boyle perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the project, describing it in two words: pride and gratitude. "Hawthorndale Care Village is a place built by the community for its community," O'Boyle said. "It reflects the values that make us who we are—compassion, respect, and a shared commitment to care for our elderly and those living with dementia."
Deputy Chairwoman Sarah Hannan echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the project was more than just a physical building. "It is a home that offers freedom and dignity to our elderly and those with dementia, as well as their loved ones," Hannan shared. "The Village will be a home where residents can enjoy each day their way."
The project's success has been bolstered by the unwavering support from all corners of Southland. Board member Paddy O’Brien noted the numerous anonymous donations and the generous contributions of businesses that volunteered their time and expertise to bring the vision to life.
Manager Margaret Brown, whose vision it was to build the Hawthorndale Care Village for the Southland community, said "She felt blessed to see this dream become a reality."
Looking Ahead: Public Open Days
After more than a decade of planning, fundraising, and construction, Hawthorndale Care Village is ready to open its doors to the wider community. We are excited to invite everyone to experience the care and comfort of the Village firsthand during our public open days on Saturday, April 12th, and Sunday, April 13th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore the world-class facilities and see the vision come to life before the official move-in of residents and staff in early May.
