Frank O’Boyle

Frank is a qualified Civil Engineer with over 20 years’ experience. Originally from Ireland, In his early years Frank worked in the construction industry in Ireland and Australia before moving to New Zealand in 2005. Frank spent 10 years working for an engineering consultancy firm in Invercargill before taking the opportunity to enter the New Zealand Port sector in 2015 when he was employed by South Port NZ as their Infrastructure Manager. In his free time Frank has a passion for sport and if he’s not on the sideline supporting his three children, he might be spotted attempting to pull the boots on himself to various degrees of success. He also likes to get out for a run from time to time with Bluff Hill one of his favourite tracks.

 Paddy O’Brien

Paddy is a born and bred Southlander, a former police detective, international rugby referee and is currently the World Rugby Sevens Match Official Manager. Awarded the ONZM in 2005 for services to rugby refereeing, he is a Board Member of Invercargill Licensing Trust (ILT) and has been a Board Member of Calvary Hospital Southland since 2013.  Both his parents resided at Calvary and his family were very impressed with the compassionate care they received in their time there. Married to Carolyn with four adult children, Paddy is a passionate supporter of The Hawthorndale Care Village, as the current way New Zealand approaches care for dementia patients needs to change.

Sarah Hannan

Since returning to Southland in 2008, Sarah has been in management roles with Southland Chamber of Commerce and then as Programme Director for the Southland Regional Development Strategy (SoRDS). Previously, Sarah held senior marketing and management positions in tourism, education, advertising and manufacturing in Queenstown and Christchurch and spent two years working in London in contract marketing.

Scott O’donnell

An Invercargill native, Scott kicked off his career in senior financial roles within telecom and banking. In 1995, he and his wife, Jocelyn, made a pivotal move back to Invercargill, where he began working for HW Richardson Group (HWR) – a transport company founded by Joc’s late father, Bill Richardson. Scott quickly climbed the ranks from GM to Managing Director, a role he owned for over 10 years. Under his leadership, HWR has evolved into a billion-dollar conglomerate, spanning 50 businesses and employing 2,500 staff across New Zealand and Australia. As an active HWR Board Director, Scott is currently spearheading the $180 million redevelopment of Invercargill’s CBD and plays a key role in the development of the city’s Dementia Village. He also works closely with Joc, managing Transport World and its various tourism attractions. 

Mike Wyeth

Originally from Waitomo, Mike is a finance professional with over 15 years’ experience in investment and corporate finance across New Zealand and the United Kingdom. From his current role at Invest South to notable positions at Heartland Bank, Forsyth Barr, and HIS Markit, his expertise extends through private equity, insurance and fund management sectors. He also serves as principle of 4Six Degrees, a financial consultancy. Mike holds a Bachelor of Commerce and is also a member of the Institute of Directors and Business Mentors NZ. 

Paul Harrington

Paul is the Group Sales and Marketing Manager at Southland-owned McCallums Group, a position he has held for the past two decades. Concurrently, he also serves as Chairman of Apparelmaster NZ and a director at Selector Uniforms Limited. Motivated by his father’s longstanding commitment to Calvary Hospital, where he served as Chairman, Paul readily accepted the opportunity to join the board of HCV. Being part of this project is a privilege for Paul, as it aligns with his family’s legacy of community involvement. As a Board member, he is thrilled to contribute to turning a dream into a reality for the Southland community.

Helen Young

As a key player of the Executive Leadership Team at South Port, Helen brings a wealth of experience to the table. With a law degree from Canterbury University, she spent nearly two decades as a commercial lawyer before transitioning into sports management. Combining her professional expertise with a passion for promoting active lifestyles, Helen then shifted gears to focus on human resources, specialising in employment and industrial relations. Beyond her corporate roles, she has actively contributed to the community, serving as a Tenancy Tribunal Adjudicator, and supporting charitable organisations like Hospice Southland and Southland Sharks Basketball. Based in Invercargill with her husband Wayne, Helen’s life outside of work revolves around family, friends, and doting on her adored granddaughters, aged 9 and 5.

Margaret Brown

Margaret is a NZ Registered Nurse with extensive knowledge and experience. She has held leadership and management roles within the secondar and primary health-care sector in Southland. Margaret has managed Calvary Hospital (consisting of 72 beds and 8 flats) for the past 11 years and brings inordinate strength to this role. She fosters and supports a culture that strives for excellence in clinical service provision, has oversight of health and safety, quality and risk management and leads and manages organisational certification. Margaret has a clear vision for future development and is a passionate advocate for the development of The Hawthorndale Care Village.

Helen Robinson

Helen joined the team in February 2022 as the Project Manager, overseeing the transition from Calvary Hospital to the Village. Originally from England and having moved to Invercargill from Shetland (an archipelago in the Northern Isles of Scotland), Helen arrived with her family just before lockdown in 2020.

Helen began her management career working in London as an Operations Director for a Housing and Support provider and later as Registered Manager for aged care services in Shetland where she resided with her family for 10 years. Helen has a wealth of experience managing aged care facilities in the UK and on moving to Southland Helen held the diverse role of General Manager for The Southland Charity Hospital.

Helen and her family are thoroughly enjoying the Southland lifestyle and continue to explore all that the region has to offer. In her free time, Helen enjoys hiking and the gym and can be found on the track as part of the “Southern Most Skaters” Roller Derby team.
